In an interesting move, Netflex has decided to pick up David Letterman and give him his own series.
According to an article I found from New York’s PIX11 (WPIX-TV), the former Late Show host’s new show is slated to air in 2018 and it will use an interview style format.
Letterman, who has a noted obsession with Trump (to borrow an expression from the Washington Times’ Jennifer Harper), has expressed a desire to interview both Trump and Pope Francis. Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen, but given Trump’s penchant for interviews it’s not outside the realm of possibility. Letterman and Trump are no strangers to each other having a bit of a storied and tense history, so if and when a new Trump/Letterman interview does happen, I expect a lot of sparks to fly and the show’s high ratings to fly even higher.
A big question worth asking about the show is whether or not the show is another one of Netflix’s left-leaning propaganda pieces or Letterman interviewing people in typical fashion. However, given Letterman’s history of apparent liberal bias combined with the content that Netflix usually features (which are generally filled with liberal overtones), part of me is inclined to think it is the former. After all, Netflix has become a hotbed as of late for left-leaning documentaries, “edgy” SJW comedians, original programs (see Dear White People) and let’s not forget the entire Bill Nye Saves the World debacle.
Personally speaking, part of me is a curious about his new project as I was literally obsessed with Letterman from ages 8-16. Regardless of how obvious his views became over time, he was still one of my early inspirations in life and one of the biggest reasons why I loved watching interview style shows. Yet the other part of me can’t get over the fact that this is just going to be more liberal activism and so my feelings are mixed and my excitement is not exactly piqued.
What do you think? Excited to see Letterman make a comeback or is this going to be more or less another activist program from Netflix? Let me know in the comments below!
